Subject: IPv6 prefix delegation size
Date: Thu, 20 Dec 2012 13:24:06 -0800
To: dhcp-suggest@isc.org
From: "H. Peter Anvin" <hpa@zytor.com>
Client: please add a way to request a specific size prefix when doing a DHCPv6 prefix delegation request. Technically this is done by excluding any preexisting prefixes wider than the requested prefix, and if there are none remaining include a request for the zero prefix with the requested width (i.e. ::/60 for a prefix size of /60). Server: please make it possible to respond to such requests with a prefix of the requested size, subject to policy controls. -hpa -- H. Hello Peter: You'll be pleased to learn that we have added a command line argument, --prefix-len-hint, to dhclient that instructs the client to use the specified value as the prefix length hint when soliciting prefixes. This change will be available in our upcoming feature release, 4.4.0, due out first quarter 2018. We like to thank our contributors by citing them in the release notes. If you care to recognized in this manner, please respond with how you want to be identified. Typically it is by name and/or organization. Thank you for suggesting this change. Regards, Thomas Markwalder ISC Software Engineering
