      Hello

We have the software Efficient IP which is using DHCPD.

We have a problem in our network that needs the feature "delayed dhcp response" per subnetwork / scope. MS DHCP has this feature, but DHCPD does not it seems. We need this so our printers does not aquire DHCP before it is authenticated and put into to another LAN using dot1x.

Our vendor informs us that DHCPD does not currently have this feature. If this is correct, what can we do to get this feature developed?

      Kind regards

      Tor Stefan Lura

Hello Helse, How to get the feature developed? We have a very limited amount of support from the community for DHCP development and maintenance, and we have to prioritize bug fixing over new features. We have many dhcpd users and a large number of issues reported and we have to triage them. That said, we will prioritize new features when asked by our support customers. EfficientIP is not helping to support ISC DHCP maintenance and development currently. We will reach out to them and ask if they are interested in becoming a support customer, and in asking us to develop this for you and their other customers. We will also leave your feature request in our open issue tracker and perhaps other users will add their voices to your request. Regards, Vicky Risk, Product Manager

Hello Vicky,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

It is okay to put my request in the public readable queue with my number. I am curious if there is a way we can buy development hours from ISC in order to fund this feature? Do we need to become a support customer? Do you know how much it will cost to become a support customer?

Kinds regards

Hello Helse,

How to get the feature developed?  We have a very limited amount of support from the community for DHCP development and maintenance, and we have to prioritize bug fixing over new features. We have many dhcpd users and a large number of issues reported and we have to triage them. That said, we will prioritize new features when asked by our support customers.

We will leave your feature request in our issue tracker and perhaps other users will add their voices to your request. (I had originally planned to put this in the publicly-readable queue, but then I noticed that you had included your phone number, so let us know if it is ok to publish your original request with the phone number or not).

Regards,

Vicky Risk, Product Manager

I am curious if there is a way we can buy development hours from ISC in order to fund this feature? Do we need to become a support customer? Do you know how much it will cost to become a support customer? Hi Stefan, Thank you for your generous offer to sponsor the feature, or subscribe for support. Support subscriptions start around $10K I think and are based on the size of the deployment. I will ask one of our sales people to reach out to you via email, and will also ask the engineer who would be developing the feature for an estimate. I know he has some concerns about breaking other functionality as well so he may need to give that a bit more thought as well. We’ll try to get back to you in a couple of days, if you don’t hear please feel free to ping us again. I am on vacation next week as are several of my colleagues so if we don’t get a good answer by the end of the week it may take us another week. Regards, Vicky
